Het Sieraad: Club in De Baarsjes, Amsterdam

21+, some 18+ eventsLockersNeat dress, no sportswear

Het Sieraad is an electronic music venue in a monumental former craft school at Postjesweg 1 in Amsterdam West. You go for house and techno from international DJs and new names, played under a glass roof between brick walls, pillars and stained glass. The club uses the Atrium, the old school courtyard, under a glass roof 16 metres high. Rooms around it can be combined, and together they hold up to 1,150 people. Line-ups change every week and the venue opens per event, so there are no regular opening hours. Tickets are sold through the event pages, and at the door only when a night is not sold out. The building went up in the early 1920s to a design by A.J. Westerman for the Vierde Ambachtsschool, a trade school. A school for goldsmiths and watchmakers moved in during 1980. It closed in 2002, the building became a rijksmonument in 2003, and restoration began in 2005 with the glass roof over the courtyard. Today the club shares the building with adult education, the Frank Sanders Akademie and restaurant Daalder. House rules are worth reading: entry is 21+ with some 18+ exceptions, sportswear is not allowed, and chewing gum is banned to protect the old building. Doors close one hour before the end of the event, and nobody gets in after that. You can pay by card or in cash, and cash cards are sold at the lockers. There are small and large lockers, and earplugs are on sale inside.
