Studio Keramiek is a pottery studio on the Davisstraat in Amsterdam West where you can try the wheel for an afternoon, follow a course or come back to work on your own pieces. It suits beginners as well as people who already throw and want a fully equipped place to do it. Most people start with an introduction workshop at the wheel or a hand-building session, where you make your own cup, bowl or vase and then add colour. The work is fired twice by the studio, and you collect the finished piece after about three weeks. For more depth there are five-week courses, glazing workshops, private sessions for groups and the Kids Clay Club for children. The agenda on the website shows dates and open places, and bookings are made online. The Open Studio is for those who want to carry on alone. Members get 12 hours a month in four three-hour sessions, with clay, glazes, firing, tools, coffee and tea included and someone on hand for questions. Studio Keramiek was founded by the ceramist Diana, who has more than 25 years' experience in art education and also makes her own collection and sculptures. Teachers include Sterre, who leads the wheel course, and Hanna Orion, a Gerrit Rietveld Academie ceramics graduate who teaches hand-building.
