About Buurtkamer Corantijn

Buurtkamer Corantijn is a neighbourhood room at Corantijnstraat 25 in the Postjesbuurt, in the Baarsjes in Amsterdam-West. Neighbours come here to meet at the free games afternoons, the neighbourhood drinks and the weekly drop-in, and anyone can hire a room for a workshop, meeting or exhibition, or simply to sit and work or read in peace.

The weekly rhythm is simple and largely volunteer-run. There is chair yoga and mindfulness for a small contribution, a free open drop-in on Wednesdays, and at the same time help with phones, computers and tablets. Young people from 12 to 18 can join the free Jong&Out meetings.

The building has three rooms: a front room of about 25 square metres, a lounge of 35 and a basement of 50 with no windows and a low ceiling, which suits meditation or singing. It is run by Stichting Corantijnstraat 25, with city subsidy for 2025 to 2030. The building cannot be fully adapted for people with reduced mobility, and the website has a detailed access overview. Tram 17 and bus 15 stop at Corantijnstraat.

The front room takes 8 to 15 people depending on the layout, the lounge 16 and the basement 20. Bookings go through reserveren@buurtkamercorantijn.nl. Children can also get tutoring here on Saturday mornings.
