Warehouse Elementenstraat: Club in Sloterdijk, Amsterdam

Card onlyLockersSmoking area

Warehouse Elementenstraat is a club in a former peanut factory in the industrial west of Amsterdam, with a modular concrete interior of several rooms and a total capacity of 3,000. Go for electronic music at a scale between a nightclub and an indoor festival, in the building where the city's first illegal raves took place. There is no regular club week here. The venue opens per event, so hours and door policy depend on the night, with promoters building the rooms around each party. Breakfast Club and Is Burning have run sunrise sessions, Reaktor brings its Katharsis and Unpolished weekends, and Amsterdam Dance Event takes over the building for days at a time. Line-ups put big-name DJs alongside rising underground talent, and tickets are sold per event. AMAZE, an immersive audiovisual experience, uses the same address. The Multigroove crew made the building famous in the early 1990s, throwing 61 illegal parties between April 1992 and May 1993 that shaped the Dutch gabber sound, with DJs such as The Prophet, Buzz Fuzz and Gizmo in the booth. Police raided the place on 15 May 1993 and it shut overnight. Nearly twenty years later Duncan Stutterheim, who went to his first rave here, bought the building. He had it stripped back and rebuilt with more rooms, better acoustics and a new sound system, doubling its size, and it has hosted club nights since 2014. You pay by card at the bars, and lockers can be rented when you arrive. Smoking is only allowed in the outdoor areas, and cigarettes are not sold on site.
