OCCII is an independent, non-profit concert hall on the Amstelveenseweg in Amsterdam, opposite the south entrance of the Vondelpark. You go for punk, noise, improv, folk, global sounds, rave and avant-garde shows in a small hall that has stayed outside the commercial circuit since the 1980s. The building is a horse-tram depot built in 1883 and 1884 to a design by Abraham Salm. It was squatted in 1984 and legalised in 1992, and it is still part of the Binnenpret complex, which also holds Kinderpret, a library and the LAG hacklab. Nearly everything is done by volunteers, with a staff of two. The shows mostly finish before 23:30. The hall is wheelchair accessible with a disabled toilet, and companions get in free. You can pay by card, tickets are not refunded, and there are no lockers, so bring only what you can hold on to. The hall holds 225. Tickets are sold online and, if a night is not sold out, at the door, and the minimum age at dance events is 18. Merchandise is mostly sold for cash. Trams 1, 2 and 17 and buses 15, 62 and 247 stop within walking distance. Parking nearby is scarce and paid.
