Boekenmarkt Spui

FridaysAll yearBooksCentrum

Every Friday around 25 booksellers from across the Netherlands set up on the Spui with second-hand and antiquarian books on nearly every subject. There are prints, pamphlets, posters, documents and magazines as well. Most of what you will find is in Dutch, French, German or English, with other languages turning up from time to time. The market has been a fixture for book lovers for thirty years by its own count, and it takes more than rain to stop it.

When to go

Every Friday, 10am to 6pm, all year round. The market only cancels for force majeure such as very severe weather, which it says is rare. A rain shower is not enough. I amsterdam's info box says 9am, but the market's own site and I amsterdam's description both say 10am.

Getting there

The market's site points to trams 2, 4, 11, 12 and 14 from Centraal, or a walk of about 15 minutes. The Spui is also where Art Amsterdam Spui sets up on Sundays, so the square has a market on both ends of the weekend.
