Waterlooplein is the flea market next to City Hall, in what was Amsterdam's Jewish quarter. I amsterdam calls it the oldest flea market in the Netherlands and counts about 300 stalls. Each one is different: second-hand clothes by the rail, vintage cameras, used books, antiques, knick-knacks, souvenirs and bicycle parts. Food trucks sell Italian, Lebanese and Greek snacks. Second-hand clothes on rails are what you notice first, and they take time to go through.

When to go

The market trades Monday to Saturday. We could not confirm the exact hours: the city's market data gives 9am to 5pm, but it was last updated in 2022 and the market's own website was down when we checked.

What's on the stalls

I amsterdam lists vintage cameras, second-hand books, fashion and second-hand clothing, antiques, knick-knacks, souvenirs and bicycle parts. Traders set their own prices.

Around the market

The square sits beside City Hall and the Dutch National Opera & Ballet, close to the Rembrandt House and the Amstel. That makes it easy to combine with a museum or a walk along the river.
