Take the long way home

There's more around every corner.

Amsterdam's markets run from the big daily street markets in De Pijp and Oost to Saturday farmers' markets, a monthly flea market in the old NDSM shipyard and a Friday book market on the Spui. Most are run by the city and trade on fixed days. Others are private and come round once a month. We list the days and times each market publishes, and we leave out what we could not confirm.

Before you set off

Common questions

Is there a market in Amsterdam today?

From Monday to Saturday, yes: the Albert Cuypmarkt, the Dappermarkt, the Ten Katemarkt and the Waterlooplein flea market all trade six days a week. On Sundays those street markets are closed and the Sunday markets take over. Each market page gives the days it trades.

Which Amsterdam markets are open on Sunday?

None of the big daily street markets. Sunday is for art and makers: Art Amsterdam Spui from March to December, plus Sunday Market at Westergas, Museum Market and Pure Markt, each on certain Sundays of the month. The city also lists a Sunday antiques and art market on the Nieuwmarkt from May to November.

Do I have to pay to get in?

Not at most markets. The ones marked free entry say so themselves. The street markets are held on public streets and squares and publish no entry charge, though they do not state that it is free. IJ-Hallen is the exception: it charges admission, € 6.50 for adults.

Which market is the biggest?

By the stall counts published, IJ-Hallen in Noord, at 600 stalls, one weekend a month. Among the daily markets, I amsterdam counts about 300 stalls at Waterlooplein, 260 at the Albert Cuypmarkt and around 200 at the Dappermarkt.

Why are the opening times missing for some markets?

Because the published times disagree. Where a market's own site, I amsterdam and the city's market data give different hours and we could not settle it, we show the days only and explain the difference on the market's page.
